Black People...It Makes no Sense

Hello Faithful Reader,

I hope this month’s issue of the Black Birdseye View finds you well and in good spirit. I am well. I waited until the day I needed to submit this to my publisher to write this piece because right now I am currently disgusted with the condition of being black in America. Looking at the news is downright depressing. So, I got up this morning with a fresh idea on my mind. Initially, I planned on listing all the people killed or injured by the police in the United States since January 1, 2020. It turns out that list is 33 pages and counting and I just know my Publisher will not let me slide with that and plus the fact that unless you live under a rock, you already know that the list exists and is mounting.

Victims killed by the police were majority white (52%) but disproportionately black (32%) with a fatality rate of 2.8 times higher among blacks than whites. Most victims were reported to be armed (83%); however, black victims were more likely to be unarmed (14.8%) than whites (9.4%) or Hispanic (5.8%) victims.

As far as I can see, black folks have been fighting the same battle since forever. Recently I interviewed a small-town attorney to get her perspective as a black woman on the condition of being born black in America. I planned to share the interview, but upon further reflection, I opted not to. Because it was not an interview, she attempted to give mini speeches, which is not how I conduct an interview. Mind you, and I conducted the interview twice. I bring it up because the interview shed light on deeper issues within the black community and black people born in America in general.

In most cases, it is almost impossible for black people to step outside the box of their traditional beliefs and thoughts. Now let me rewind.

1. Traditional beliefs or opinions are what one believes because they were born into it.

The alternative to traditional beliefs and opinions is

2. Reflective beliefs and opinions, to believe what you think because you thought about it, it makes sense and you believe it.

Simple. It is reckless to adopt a thought process or belief system based on tradition. The traditions that the average black person born in America gravitate toward stem from beliefs forced upon their ancestors who were African Slaves. Now mind you, these beliefs were not introduced to the African slave as a choice to make, but rather, under threat of punishment or death.

The oppressors purposely erased the true nature of the African slave from all perspective from:

  • The way they lived

  • What they ate

  • The option not to have sex

  • The option to keep their child

  • Their way of being

  • Their freedom

  • The language they spoke

  • The God they worshiped and how they worshiped

The essence of the African Slaves was stolen and replaced with a watered-down version, in a different language, in another place, and in a land of strangers. These strangers stripped the very essence of who The African Slaves were to force the African slave to work for free. As a bonus for the oppressors, the African Slaves were raped, mutilated, and programmed to believe whatever the oppressor told them to believe no matter how untrue and senseless it was.

It makes no sense that so many black people fight logic and facts in the age of technology where there is much information is at our fingertips to continue to cling to their traditional beliefs knowing that those beliefs were given to them by their ancestors who got those beliefs from the oppressor. It makes NO sense.

I have heard some say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly, expecting a different outcome. A lot of Black people are looking insane to me as they feign temporary outrage over police brutality in America. There has always been police brutality against black people in America. This is not new.

Black people look even more insane, pretending to benefit from the system and trying to fix it. When has the system ever worked? The system does anything and everything EXCEPT protect black people. The system is working. Just not for black people. It is doing what it is supposed to do. Expecting the system to be fixable is ridiculous to anyone who understands the condition of the black man born in America.

It is interesting that black people STILL expect the

· judicial system

· political system

· educational system

expect all systems to be open and receptive to the plight of the black man in America, a plight that has always existed. It is kind of like playing spades with someone you know is cheating and expecting to win. It makes no sense at all.

When speaking with several individuals about this matter, including the attorney I interviewed, I asked what they thought of black people arming themselves? Their responses seemed scripted from the slave masters book himself. They said if everybody has a gun, then everyone will get shot. When I asked about an eye for an eye, they said, with an eye for an eye, everyone would be blind. Never once considering that a part of the mental programming that spans over 300 years is to overlook the fact that war includes casualties and death not protesting and marching.

It is an unrealistic expectation to think that racism can be untrained in America, a country built on the backs of African slaves upon stolen land.

v Until black people stop begging to be equal to direct descendants of the oppressors.

v Until black people stop needing inclusion where they are not wanted.

v Until black people understand the greatness in our ancestral history and from where our real power lay

we should expect much of the same. The system needs no fixing. It needs dismantling.

When people tell me that the protests are working because all races take part in the protests, I ask, where are these people when we are being distracted by News and Media, and why do we only see them when we are temporarily outraged? For that matter, black folks need to consider that when black people are outraged, it never fails. The media will put something in front of us and then just like that, Tada! Instant amnesia until the next Black Person is recorded and streamed live on social media platforms being murdered by a cop who gets off or is never charged.

Until Next Time

Always,

Robin

PS. FYI Donald Trump did not break America. He created a platform that allowed racist white people to show their true colors alongside him. When people tell me that they are not racist because they are in a relationship with black people, I tell them that Massa had mixed children too. The generational wealth that comes with being born white in America tips the scale and stacks the deck against anyone who is not the descendant of African slave owners aka the oppressors.
