AzMarie

Hello Faithful Reader. Take the time to get to know Actress, Performing Artist, Dancer and World Class Fashion Model AzMarie sits down with The Black Bird's Eye View in this, most inspiring q and A session.

Q.

Where are you from?

A.

Milwaukee, WI

Q.

When did you know for sure that you were passionate about being a Fashion Model?

A.

When I was 9 years old my father had a friend who was a photographer. He took some Black and white multi head shots of me. The response we received from people who viewed the photo was extremely positive. I took it very seriously and have always had a desire to pursue a career in modeling.

Q.

What would you say is the most rewarding thing that has stemmed from your career in modeling?

A.

I actually recall two events in my career. The first was in 2010 when attended my first fashion show in a tent. It was amazing. Beth Ann Harrison invited me to attend. It was such an experience. I remember Grace Jones walk in…and actually seeing the way that the room responded to her. It was amazing. It fueled me. Grace Jones opened a window for androgynous models that can never be closed. It was such an honor ……all the people I met. It was definitely a foot in the door.

The second was when I traveled to London and auditioned and was booked by Adidas. This was no ordinary fashion show, it was a full on production. There were at least 1300 people in attendance. The show spotlighted different department stores. I am a dancer…..to have been able to incorporate my dance in the show was major for me. The show lasted one day and took 5 days to prepare for. It was so much fun.

Q.

I know that in life we stumble. What is your take on bouncing back?

A.

Quitting is not an option. I traveled to Germany for casting and booking. I must have gone to 70 casting calls. Not one agency called me back……for two years. I don’t know if was my look or my size or my tattoos. In this industry there are strict guidelines that change with each agency…..One place a person could be too big and in another a person can be too small….it goes the same way with height.

Sometimes it takes a storm to grow flowers and as people we need to be able to make the best of any situation and see the positive ends that sometimes stem from a place of disappointment. At the end of the day I made a lot of great connections, I took a lot of fabulous photos…..and the experience propelled me to ahead and audition for America’s Next Top Model. I had been thinking about auditioning for a couple of years…..The timing was perfect. I was at a crossroad. I could have easily given up. I say all this to say that what may present as a setback might be an opportunity to step outside the box and realize a dream. I am sure if I had not have been casted for ANTM I would have reformulated my plan of action. It feels good to be in such a great place right now. It feels good to be recognized for my work.

Q.

What would you say the major contributing factor in your success is?

A.

Without the support of my family I don’t know if I would be at the level of success that I am today. From a financial standpoint my family made it possible for me to make the necessary moves that led to this moment and for that I am forever thankful. It can be difficult to go into the world to pursue your dreams. Having the backing of my family took a great deal of strain off of me and allowed me to travel and see the world and land these bookings that allow me to eat.

Q.

Where did you get the name Azmarie?

A.

While on America’s Next Top Model there were a handful of Ashley’s…..There could only be one. I choose AzMarie because my name is Ashley Marie.

Q.

In your wildest dream what do you see yourself doing?

A.

I would love to travel and take beautiful photographs to sell.

Q.

So I now know that you are a dancer and a photographer…..what else?

A.

In this order….I am a model, writer, visual artist, performing artist, actor, and dancer. I consider myself to be a well rounded artist with many outlets tom express myself.

Q.

When you say performing artist what type of artist do you mean?

A.

I am a Rap artist. I rap about things I feel, see, and experience. It depends on my mood.

Q.

What are some of your hobbies?

A.

I enjoy reading, writing and traveling.

Q.

What Next for AzMarie?

A.

I had a lot on my mind after my illumination from America’s Next Top Model. I had no Idea that it would have such an impact. Right now I am extremely focused on my 5 year outlook….where do I want to be? How do I want to get there and what is the best means to make that happen? I am currently seeking representation for my modeling, music and acting. It is important that I am represented by someone who has a clear vision of my goals, best interest, and branding. In this profession representations can be everything.

I am in a great place right now. It feels good to be recognized for my work. I’m at a place where I am focusing on staying sharp and becoming more of myself.

I will be in North Carolina this month walking the runway at GLAM Fashion show at Fayetteville State University on April 25th and I will be walking in Tim Johnson’s Fashion on South West on April 28th at Bodi Night Club. I am looking forward to my visit.

This concludes my Q and A with fashion model AzMarie. Be on the lookout for more from this talented individual.
