Hello Faithful Reader,
I hope this found you well and in good spirit. A lot is going on in the world right now. It seems more dangerous every day. I was online on Facebook when I noticed a post from one of my Facebook friends. He was very excited about removing the confederate statues. It was clear that he saw the act as some form of victory. I responded in the comment section and asked him what was going to take place after all the statues have been removed? Before he got a chance to respond a white lady interjected and asked, “Good question Robin. What will happen next?” I took the question as a challenge and automatically responded. I posted:
i. “The first thing that needs to happen is Black People need to unify. We need to overlook everything that breaks us into different little groups. We need to dismiss everything except for the notion of the Black Man and the Black woman. People always say we need to get back to the old days. I think we can do better…. without all the distractions.
ii. We need to recognize that people of color numbers can shut the system down. We need to realize that the only reason the paper dollar is valuable is because we place value on it. We need to come away from thinking that we should be in the mold that the system puts in front of us, that gives us the notion of what success is.
iii. We need to learn trades that can sustain a city and offer an excellent bartering system. So, the only way you eat is if you contribute. We need to shut the dollar down because that is their control…. not statues.
iv. We need to turn off the TV and internet off long enough to gather our thoughts because it is clear to me that things are being placed in front of us consistently... And from a marketing perspective, I understand the significance of putting the same images before a group of people to train them to think one way or another.
v. We need to dismiss this constant need to have inclusion in a country that was for the most part, was built on the backs of African slaves. We need to organize without the notion of Messiah complexes. Everybody needs to be striking. It is a shame to me that the so-called online distributors of the conscious community information all get the big head and we end up with what may as well present as the system. It always ends up being all about the Dollar.
vi. We need to gather and control our information. We need our own schools to teach our own children. We need to shut the dollar down and arm ourselves because if nothing else, we know it’s about to get bad……if it is ever to be good. I honestly believe that the revolution will jump off, but I think at the rate we are going it will be renamed and re-purposed for something that has nothing to do with People of Color…. Imma leave that right there. We are all going to be put in positions to where we're going to have to look around at the people who we call our friends… our teammate because at the end of the day we have yet to see the day when the white man yell to the white people, “You’re either with us or you are not.” Everybody suspect to me until such time. Then we have the whole other problem of our own people who have been deeply programmed who are more of a problem to us than anyone else ever could be because in many cases we don't see them coming. We need to begin somewhere. Because we have so much that we need to be doing and none of it involves running around trying to get a map to tear down statues that don't bleed. People will read this and say, “But what about the cool white people…. They down for the cause?” To them I say, “organize among your people because Black People don’t need the distraction right now.” I am not a raciest…. I simply love my people first and better…..and right now I am worried about us. I appreciate you for asking and hope not to have offended because being offensive is not my intention. The problem is I have organized on ground Think Tanks in Raleigh and Durham and what I took away from each was that people seem to like to do debate and regurgitate more than share information. I launched a conscious page here called Think Tank to spark discussion beyond reminiscing on yesterday. I think that on some subconscious level debating feels like a safer place than agreeing because if we agree…. Then that’s the question you asked….What’s next?” Even if I had all the answers I’d be a fool to place it on Facebook or any social media means. I am beyond open to linking with like minded individual…. because we come few and far in between. Robin Mills”
Then sho nuff the brother who posted originally chimed in and in my opinion, had very little to say. So, I dismissed the conversation altogether. Then here that white lady come coming talking about tearing the statues down, renaming street and getting rid of all of the statues and streets that don’t support same sex marriage and the lgbtq community. I was like, “Looka here…it aint even been a day and they are already rewriting history with a new narrative. The revolutions will be renamed to something that has to do with genders and tolerance…...the whole Black man experience in America is being re-framed before our very eyes and the kick is……black people just need to be black people first.
So that about sums up what I wanted to share. It amazed me that with all this logic the only response that I received stemmed from surface thinkers, people who only go so deep and listen to but so much reason to where at the end of the day it is clear that breakthrough is not achievable. There is no word that describes the feeling that comes over me when I witness the Black distractions and watch my people be distracted…..and point out the fact that they are being distracted…..and have it not matter. It is safer to be distracted than not. if deep down you are afraid.
