Meet Adia

...Quintin flipped out when he discovered that she was pregnant! "There was no way she was pregnant too. He blamed her, said she knew better, demanded what she wanted from him now, and asked if she thought he would leave his wife?" Then he had the nerve to ask,

"How do I know the baby is mine?"

With the utterance of those words, he opened her eyes to a side he could never take back. In Adia's world, there was some shit that you didn't do and some shit you just didn't say. She wanted a fairy tale ending to the saga that had fast become her; instead, reality would not be ignored. In an instant, the light he dimmed in her turned on.

The entire fantasy flashed before her eyes. She felt like a fool for loving him.  His eyes cut into her as he glared with the rage that set the stage for all that would follow. She was too strong to plead but weak enough to need him to want her. She reached out to him to have him snatch away. Her soul cried out to him. She could not believe that he could not feel how deep her love for him went or how she wept on the inside as the tide brushed all the ugly in him to shore before her eyes. She tried to look away, but reality was in her face as she breathed him in. Calm overtook her. He noticed,

"Now what chu thinking? What chu plan on doing?"

He stepped closer to her. She backed away. Her back met the wall in the corner. Something overcame the fear that had crept in.

"Back up off me Quintin."

The request sounded like a threat. Quintin knew he had it coming. The reflection in her eyes was unfamiliar to him. The gaze of this woman had put the fear of God in him. He stepped aside. As she moved past him, she stopped and turned to ask,

"How dare you? You paved your way into my life with lies and fought to remain. I loved your sorry black ass even after I found out you were married and would have been fool enough to love you forever. I didn't need anything but you to be happy. And this is what I get? This is all that's left after I let you into my life and all up in my pussy. After I bent over backward and tied myself in a fucking knot to accommodate your cheating punk ass, and you have the nerve to walk up on me in my house behind some shit you stepped into all by yourself knowingly? Who the fuck do you think you are Quintin? Better still, who the fuck do you think I am. You got me twisted with that bitch you keep at the house. I will snap like a fucking twig behind some blatant ass bull shit disrespect...you got me fucked all the way up. You look surprised. Well surprise mutha fucka. If this is some shit you didn't know before…well gotdammit now you do. You fucking with some shit you know absolutely nothing about!"

She shook her head as she shushed the words he was about to speak, to go on to say,

"I'm as good as the good you get and as evil as I want to be."

He had never heard her speak to anyone, let alone him in, this way. He attempted to speak, but she cut him off,

"No, No, No, No… don't try to fix this shit now nigga. You don't know me; plain as day, you don't. Hush now! I will not let you take one word back. I can't get my time back, can I?

She paused as if expecting to get an answer and went on to say,

"But it's alright…cause I got something fa ya ass."

She laughed in the midst of tears. Quintin knew that no good would come from anything he said after the fact. He stood quiet as she whispered, "You know that rain will pour down on you behind this shit right here?"

"What do you mean by that?

Quintin was scared. He always thought that Adia was a different kind of chick. She was borderline spooky. She entered a room with such presence that you could not help but notice her. He liked that in her. When people got on her nerves, she would always say that they were about to catch her flip side, and he used to laugh when she would tell them that she was about to snap like a twig. He had wondered what she would do when shit hit the fan. At that moment, he was finding out. She was as calm as could be. She had stopped talking and was standing there looking right at him. He saw the hurt all over her. He wanted to take it all back but knew he could not. He reached out to touch her. He found her to be distant and cold. Her eyes closed slowly, and the tears that fell were louder than any sound he'd heard. He knew he had hurt her heart. She did not utter a sound as she turned from him. Quintin walked helplessly away.

Adia never looked back at the dream that had never come true and knew she would never see him again.  She couldn't tell her child these things, knowing the pain it would bring her. So she explained that he was a good man and a married man and that she did what she had to do at the time.

"Your Father's name is… Quintin Stevens."

Adia closed her eyes and slipped away to a place where the rain didn't represent pain anymore. In an instant, the Doctor pronounced her dead...
