Hello Faithful Reader,
I hope this month’s edition of the Black Bird’s Eye View finds you well and in good spirit. I am well. This month I would like to introduce you to an individual who makes a difference in the lives of others by providing a service or product that promotes good health as it relates to self-esteem and confidence. Most people have a lot on their plate. The last thing they should have to worry about is their appearance or the way they feel others see them. Feelings of insecurity or inadequacy are distractions that none of us need.
Sit back and get to know Shadira Lee, a Native of New Jersey who currently resides in Raleigh, NC. Shadira had the presence of mind to create a product that is specifically geared towards women and children who suffer from hair loss due to:
· Lupus
· Alopecia
· Cancer
Shadira created Extension Caps, hats that have a detachable hairpiece that can be switched between hats. Made with 100 percent virgin and Remy hair, the hairpieces can be shampooed, colored, and styled. What makes this concept even more unique is the fact that the hair is interchangeable. It can be switched from one cap to another, creating versatility and style.
When asked what prompted her to create this product, Shadira had this to say,
" As a hairstylist, I have seen conditions where a wig is not a suitable option. If there is very little hair or no hair, the wig will have no foundation to be attached to. The wig will slide and reposition itself. I noticed this when my boyfriend's mother went through cancer. So, I set about the task of creating a fashionable way to eliminate this problem while at the same time promote healthy self-esteem. As a part of the installation process, it is important to me to make sure that each client understands that they are beautiful just the way they are. My role in my client's journey is to provide them with another option. The great thing about this product is that long after the client has grown their hair back, they can still utilize it on bad hair days or to be versatile in general."
Shidira launched this hairline in 2019 at the "Making Stride Cancer Drive” in Raleigh, NC and has donated countless Extension Caps to individuals in need.
