The truth is: There's no telling how many black people in Wake County are locked up right now at this very moment behind charges trumped up by crooked RPD cops. Troubling is the lack of outrage by black people in Wake County over the fact that in 2021, eight RPD officers were named in a dismissed lawsuit against the city of Raleigh for its police officers framing over 25 and counting people (primarily black) with trafficking heroin...that Wake County DA Lorrin Freeman went on to charge with selling trafficking heroin. Now, mind you, all charges were dropped, the falsely accused were released, the black cop, Omar Abdullah, was fired and indicted for obstruction of justice, the black informant was jailed, and the city of Raleigh settled the lawsuit to ...the tune of 2 million dollars. But what about the other 7 cops that vanished from media and investigation? They got away scot-free. To add insult to injury, when asked to reopen and "fraud check" all cases of the cops mentioned in the lawsuit, DA Lorrin Freeman refused. Her office only looked into the cases involving the lone black cop mentioned in the news, like he was the only crooked cop involved. That's a problem. At the very least, the other cops need their credentials snatched. There's no telling how many black people are locked up behind fake charges trumped up by crooked RPD officers that Wake County DA Lorrin Freeman co-signs for. REMEMBER: Just because the "Abdullah" case dates back to 2018 does not mean that's when RPD started caging black people. We don't know how deep this rabbit hole goes...or how far up the chain.
THIS IS HOW WE FIGHT BACK:
Anyone ever incarcerated in Wake County would be a fool to NOT look at their arrest paperwork to see if any of the cops listed on it is one of the eight officers named in the dismissed lawsuit against the city of Raleigh... because if they were.....if there was ever a time to hit a lick, it's now.
Every now and then, there is a call for action that amounts to the same repeated discussion:" a whole lot of begging for what should be free." From a distance, it looks like activity, but up close, it is inactivity presented as activity.
HERE'S HOW TO TAKE ACTION:
If you've been incarcerated in Wake County, NC:
1. Review your paperwork. See if any of the eight named officers are listed.
The dismissed lawsuit named the following officers:
Lieutenant Jennings Bunch
Sergeant William Rolfe
Officer Rishar Pierre Monroe
Officer Julien David Rattelade
Officer Meghan Caroline Gay
Officer David Chadwick Nance
Officer Jason Gwinn
Omar Abdullah (who was terminated and indicted for obstruction of justice)
2. Consult an attorney to get your charges reassessed and potentially cleared.
3. The best way to enforce accountability is by hitting the city where it hurts—IN THEIR POCKETS. Instruct your attorney to:
Demand justice
Clear your name,
Seek compensation for your troubles.
That's what you do.
The city of Raleigh's agents, Lieutenant Jennings Bunch, Sergeant William Rolfe, Officer Rishar Pierre Monroe, Officer Julien David Rattelade, Officer Meghan Caroline Gay, Officer David Chadwick Nance, Officer Jason Gwinn, Ex RPD officer Omar Abdullah need to be held accountable.
Accountability has multifaceted benefits for society beyond the immediate ramifications of any individual case. It reinforces the principle of social justice and the rule of law and sends a loud message that no one is above the law—not even those tasked with enforcing it.
